Witch to target the top sprints
BEWITCHED is likely to revert to six furlongs after beating the cream of Ireland’s seven furlong horses at Leopardstown yesterday.
Bookies have priced Charles O’Brien’s filly up for the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot but her trainer thinks the race may come too soon. “I would not be averse to running her at Deauville and Haydock rather than Royal Ascot,” said O’Brien. “Fillies don’t have a particularly good record in the Golden Jubilee and it looks a hot race.” Fame And Glory went off at 30-100 for the Gold Cup trial on the card but did not win at all impressively.
Aidan O’Brien was not fazed, though, and rates him a better horse than Yeats who won the Gold Cup four times. “I don’t think we have trained such a classy horse for the Gold Cup,” said the trainer. He and Rite Of Passage are 3-1 for Royal Ascot.
