Sunderland 1 - Crystal Palace 4: Hat-trick hero Bolasie on fire for Eagles

ALAN PARDEW buried his Sunderland hoodoo in emphatic fashion as the Black Cats suffered a near-repeat of their home mauling by Aston Villa a month ago.

Then, Sunderland were 4-0 down at the interval. Here, all the goals came after the break.

Yannick Bolasie led the romp with a stunning, 11-minute hat-trick as he practically played the relegation-haunted Wearsiders on his own.

Glenn Murray grabbed the first of three goals in five minutes - his sixth in as many games and the fifth time he has bagged Palace's opener in their last seven matches.

Connor Wickham pulled one back in the 89th minute, but that was little consolation for Dick Advocaat's men.

Palace boss Pardew was back in the north-east for the first time since quitting Newcastle to take charge at Selhurst Park in January.

In four years as Toon manager, he was only a winner once in eight games against Sunderland - and lost his last four meetings with them.

Buoyed by a fifth consecutive win against Newcastle, Sunderland made a positive start and threatened a fifth-minute opener when Steven Fletcher headed over from Jordi Gomez's left-wing corner.

Palace responded with Bolasie threading a ball in from the left across goal, forcing Santiago Vergini to clear in the six-yard box.

Jason Puncheon then probed Costel Pantilimon's defences with a near-post shot that the keeper always had covered.

The home side had reason to fear the worst on the quarter-hour when Jack Rodwell - back in midfield after a hamstring injury and replacing the suspended Sebastian Larsson - was guilty of a lunging challenge on James McArthur.

But referee Anthony Taylor kept his red card in his pocket and only raised a yellow.

Three minutes into the second half, Bolasie cut in from the right and drove the ball across for Murray to peel away and head home.

And the second goal arrived on 51 minutes, Murray out-jumping Billy Jones to flick on for Bolasie to get the better of Vergini and prod past Pantilimon.

Two minutes later, Bolasie chased Mile Jedinak's through-ball and brushed off the attentions of Sunderland skipper John O'Shea to lift his finish beyond Pantilimon.

And Bolasie completed his treble on 62 minutes when his persistence was rewarded as he scrambled the ball over the line.

There was almost a fifth for Palace on 66 minutes, McArthur's effort being saved by Pantilimon after that man Bolasie created the chance.

But Wickham struck, forcing in van Aanholt's left-wing cross. And van Aanholt then saw a shot tipped on to the bar by Speroni.

Pardew said: "We were excellent. The only disappointing thing in the first half was that we didn't take a few more risks and capitalise on some great situations.

Advocaat admitted: "I'm shocked. It was a good performance against Newcastle. This time, we were not in the game."
