Chelsea News: Fabregas on critics, Cech downfall, Adebayor update, Song offer

CESC FABREGAS insists his critics are wrong to suggest he has lost his “undisputed” place in the Spain squad.

Chelsea midfielder Fabregas was dropped to the bench for Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Ukraine last Friday.

He has made just two competitive appearances for the national side since their humiliating exit from the Brazil World Cup last summer.

And ahead of Spain’s friendly clash with Holland tomorrow, the former Arsenal player revealed he is determined to fight for his place.

"I do not think I've lost my place in the team because I've never been undisputed," he said. "The important thing is to play well if I'm selected.

"Besides, I'm sure that whoever is picked will do well. I have no doubt about that. I always support my team-mates.

"Every player likes to have continuity and I am no different. But sometimes you don't get in because the coach decides that someone is better than you.

"And anyway, the team comes above all else."

Chelsea’s goalkeeper coach, meanwhile, has expressed his dismay at seeing Petr Cech’s fall from the first team.

Christophe Lollichon says that although Thibaut Courtois’ rise to first choice at Stamford Bridge has been good for the team, he has struggled to stay positive for Cech.

“I have a relationship with Petr, who is a special person. We’ve been working together (at Chelsea) for eight years. Our relationship goes beyond just the sporting side,” he said.

“There is always that moment when a young goalkeeper arrives.

“The decision to make Thibaut No1 is the manager’s (Jose Mourinho). Then, if it’s a question of rotation, we might discuss it. But above all, it’s the manager’s call.”

Emmanuel Adebayor playing for TottenhamGETTY

Emmanuel Adebayor is reportedly wanted by Chelsea

Two men have been summoned to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in May following claims of supporters chanting racist songs at St Pancras Station on 18 February.

The alleged incident took place after Chelsea’s 1-1 clash away to PSG in the Champions League last month.

In transfer news, Emmanuel Adebayor could be close to a shock transfer to Chelsea.

The Togo striker is out of favour at current side Tottenham and is expected to leave in the summer.

He has previously played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid and reportedly commands a hefty wage.

And the Guardian report he could be reunited with manager Jose Mourinho, who coached the forward at Madrid.

West Ham look ready to forget on-loan midfielder Alex Song as they line up Julian Baumgartlinger as a replacement.

That would leave Chelsea free to land Song, who is expected to leave Barcelona in the summer.

The Hammers were thought to be interested in retaining Song but have baulked at Barca’s asking price.

And while Liverpool have reportedly joined the race for Song, Chelsea remain front-runners to land the former Arsenal man.
