David Luiz has revealed he told Jose Mourinho PSG would win with 10 men

The flamboyant Brazilian went nose-to-nose with Chelsea manager Mourinho as tempers exploded at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League last-16 tie.

Ibrahimovic's harsh dismissal by referee Bjorn Kuipers threatened to hand Chelsea the tie, but despite Chelsea twice taking the lead through Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard, Paris St Germain levelled first through Luiz's header, and then Thiago Silva's extra-time goal sent them through to the quarter-finals.

Luiz could be seen gesturing to Mourinho in front of the dugout, and he said: "I believe in my team. When I was by the touchline I was speaking with Mourinho about the red card.

"I trust my team. And we did win."

Luiz, a cult figure in his three years at Chelsea before his £40million switch to PSG last summer, denied he had elbowed Diego Costa in an off-the-ball clash.

The pair had several tangles, both being booked after one flare-up, and either could have been dismissed in a bad-tempered game littered with fouls.

I did not elbow Diego. Mourinho can say what he wants

But Luiz said: "I did not elbow Diego. Mourinho can say what he wants. It's always a battle to play against Diego. He is a fantastic player.

"Mourinho can talk about when Costa gave me an elbow in the diaphragm. It is normal. Diego is a very good friend, he is having an amazing season, I'm very happy for him.

"I didn't elbow him. He is a fantastic guy. Physically he is strong. One of the best strikers at the moment. And it is good to play against fantastic players."

Luiz hailed his team, who played for more than 90 minutes with 10 men and were clearly the better side.

"It was difficult, but losing Zlatan didn't change our plan, because we needed to score to get into the next round," he said.

"We were very happy with the game from everyone. Every single player gave everything, and we deserved to win."
