The Brazilian centre-half, who joined the Gunners from Villarreal for £11m, picked up a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over QPR.

However, Wenger is hopeful of welcoming fellow defender Nacho Monreal back to the matchday squad for Monday night's FA Cup quarter-final clash at Manchester United (7:45pm).

On the team news, Wenger said: “Gabriel has a little hamstring injury and he will be out for two to three weeks.

“That means he’s not available for the weekend and certainly not for West Ham, nor Monaco. But after that he should be available again.

“Nacho Monreal might come back, he will have a test today.

“Everybody else should be available from the same squad that played against Queens Park Rangers.”
