The 19-year-old has been on fire this season, scoring 38 goals for the club's reserve team, and could now be on the brink of an Old Trafford switch.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Southport have confirmed the offer from United, and Lewis will now be given a chance to impress Louis van Gaal.

The news will comes a bitter blow for Liverpool, who had also been keeping tabs on the youngster following his goal-scoring antics.

United have already move to land 20-year-old Sadiq El Fitouri from Salford FC, who was recommended to the club by Paul Scholes and Phil Neville.

Van Gaal has made it clear that he intends to increase the quality of players entering United's youth system as he looks to build his own Red Devils dynasty.

However, the Dutchman is primarily focused on improving his senior squad, and summer bids for Juventus' Paul Pogba and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels are already in the works.
