Manchester City's former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna tips SPURS to challenge for title

BACARY SAGNA has warned Manchester City to expect a Tottenham backlash today.

Former Arsenal defender Sagna took great delight in seeing City smash 11 goals - six at home and five away - past the Gunners' north London rivals last season.

But he insists they cannot expect such an easy ride when the clubs meet at the Etihad Stadium and says Manuel Pellegrini has not even referred to last season's one-sided games in any team talks building up to the game.

"The manager has not mentioned those games at all," said Sagna. "I remember watching it on television and I was amazed because Man City seemed to be scoring with every chance they had.

"But it is going to be a totally different game. Tottenham will want to come here and show it was a mistake. They are trying to show they can be more consistent."

Sagna believes Spurs have the quality of players to challenge for the top four places and says City must be wary of their former striker Emmnauel Adebayor, also a former Gunners' team-mate of Sagna.

"Tottenham have new players and they can challenge for the title," he added. "They have quality players and a good team, they can finish near the top.

"Adebayor's a funny, lovely guy. He gives his best for his club. He used to play for Arsenal and when I played against him [after he moved to Spurs] it was quite challenging. Now he plays for Tottenham and he's coming up against another of his old clubs so he'll be extra motivated. But he's not the only one we must worry about.

"I want to win just as much as I wanted to before when I played for Arsenal. It was a derby then so it was a bit different. But we still have to win this game. We have to focus."

City have trained in their new multi-million-pound training complex this week and Sagna says the high level of facilities means the players can have no excuses for lack of preparation.

"It's just crazy," he added. "I don't remember ever seeing anything so big. Everything is there for us to work really hard and perform. Now we don't have any excuses.

"I knew it was going to be good but when I first saw it I thought, 'How is this possible?' Technology can change the world. It's changing football. Ten years ago they didn't have facilities like this.

"You feel relaxed, you feel at home and you don't want to leave, you can train, you can rest, you can have a massage or enjoy time with the other guys.

"This is going to become one of the greatest clubs in Europe. It will just give more desire to the young players to reach this level. Everyone is going to want to play for City when they see these facilities. I feel lucky to be here."

Eliaquim Mangala will miss today's game with a slight thigh injury but is expected to be fit for Tuesday's 'must-win' Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.
