Firefighters from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to quell the blaze  on the London set.

The first floor and roof space of Dr Legg's old surgery, a house that stands in the middle of the square near the Queen Vic pub, was reportedly filled with flames.

A representative for EastEnders has said the blaze will not affect the live shows: "There was a very small fire on set on Tuesday night after rehearsals had finished.

"It has not affected any #EELive week plans and nobody was harmed."

Ian Parkhouse, a representative for Herts Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighter dealt with the incident 'quickly'.

He said: "We're pleased that we were able to deal with this incident quickly, so it shouldn't affect the 30-year celebrations taking place this week."

In what could be the culmination of one of the soap's biggest whodunnit story lines, it seems the mystery of who killed Lucy Beale has nearly been solved.

In the gripping final scene of the first 30th anniversary episode last night, Lauren Branning – played by Jacqueline Jossa – fled Albert Square in a cab as she refused to tell her dad Max (Jake Wood) why she was leaving.

Clearly panicked the father-of-four then turned to his youngest daughter Abi and said: "She knows, she knows that you killed Lucy."

In typical EastEnders' style, the scene then cut to the credits with the soap's famous 'duff-duff' theme tune, leaving viewers questioning whether it really was Abi all along.

EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
