King Charles's plan to ride horseback at this year’s Trooping the Colour may be hindered to some extent by weather conditions, according to a royal reporter.

Speaking in the latest episode of Royal Report, Jack Royston noted how soldiers standing guard over proceedings have been known to faint in the past - and this means careful consideration will be taken over whether Charles is safe to travel by horse.

The King’s Birthday Parade takes place in June and King Charles returned to public-facing duties last week. Sources have described him as “raring to go” though he continues to undergo cancer treatment.

He has expressed interest in leading the troops via horseback like he did last year. Any decision will be made with Buckingham Palace doctors.

"Now that he is actively going back to work, it raises the prospects that if he’s really feeling up to it, he could actually ride in the parade," says Mr Royston.

Of what riding horseback entails, Royston said: “It does involve wearing one troof, those very tall black bearskin hats of the kind that people may have seen on the guards who pal Buckingham Palace.”

Trooping the Colour is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 15, kicking off at 10:20am.

He added: "It could be very hot and the soldiers participating in Trooping have been known in the past to actually faint, to pass out from the heat, whereupon everybody keeps going with the parade all the same and somebody comes and helps the soldier away."

Charles has been on medical leave since February.

His cancer treatment is still ongoing, but he is reportedly feeling well enough to return to work.

“He’s been quite clear that he is raring to go,” a royal insider told The Sun.
