Prince William’s return to duties will focus on reducing food waste and food poverty, as he heads to a food redistribution charity and a youth centre.

His first visited the Surplus to Supper, a surplus food redistribution charity, in Sunbury-on-Thames, where he helped volunteers who sort and redistribute food at the charity's hub at Sunbury Cricket Club to load deliveries into their vans.

He also lent a hand in the kitchen by joining the team of chefs as they prepare meals. The charity prepares 25,000 meals a year which are then distributed to those in need.

William has personally donated some items from his own kitchen as a gesture of support to the charity.

When touring the facilities, one of the charity's volunteers, Rachel Candappa, handed him two special cards. William was delighted to receive them and told her the gesture was "Thank you, that's very kind."

He will then head to a youth centre in west London which benefits from the organisation's regular deliveries.

During the two engagements, the heir to the throne will hear about how the support from these organisations helps families in the local area, as well as reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Surplus to Supper is a volunteer-led charity which redistributes surplus food from large organisations to smaller community organisations, all within a five-mile radius.

With an ethos of ‘in bellies not bins’ the charity’s work chimes with William’s work on The Earthshot Prize which has a category focused on building a waste free world.

Surplus to Supper operates seven days a week redistributing over three tonnes of surplus food a day with its network of 200 local volunteers, which includes Duke of Edinburgh award students.

Kensington Palace said the prince is undertaking the engagements to shine a spotlight on the organisation's community and environmental impact. A spokesperson said: "Protecting the environment for future generations is one of the Prince of Wales's key priorities.”

It marks William's first engagement since March 20, as he took a short break from duties to spend time with Kate and their children during the Easter holidays.

The Princess of Wales appealed for her family to have time, space and privacy, when she announced in a video message to the nation on March 22 that she had begun chemotherapy.

The undisclosed form of cancer was discovered in post-operative tests following her major abdominal surgery in January.

It also comes just hours after it was revealed that his brother Prince Harry has officially changed his primary residence to the US.

He officially made the change on June 29, 2023 - the same day Buckingham Palace confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had vacated their former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage.
