Pigeon repellent is 'remarkably effective' as it banishes birds for ‘at least 2 years’

The non-toxic and unobtrusive repellent may be one of the best solutions for gardeners tired of pigeons destroying their crops.

Pigeons have been rejected from society since humans developed a fear of contracting their diseases. Gardeners dislike them for slightly different reasons, however, as they often find the birds sauntering onto their fresh crops.

In fact, pigeons will eat just about any type of foliage that they can access, making them a groundskeepers' worst nightmare.

Various traps have been developed to banish the bird but few have lasting effects, are humane, and are effective. One product that does tick all these boxes, however, is UV gel.

The Regional Environmental Services states: “This revolutionary bird-repellent gel is extremely effective, intrusive, and causes no harm to the birds.

“Birds can see ultraviolet light, so the optical bird gel gives them the illusion that the building is on fire, and deters them from landing.

Ann Russell, who has a following of 2.5 million TikTok users thanks to her experience in all DYI matters, has discussed the repellent on her channel.

The product came up when one of her users reached out to ask: “How can I get rid of or stop pigeons from coming to my balcony?"

Little pots of UV gel are really quite expensive but they do work,” she noted. “You put them down and because they glow, [the pigeons] see them as fire and avoid them.

“They are remarkably effective, but they are also remarkably expensive,” admitted Ann.

The experts at Regional Environmental Services claim that the repellent alters the behaviour of the bird making it one of the more humane repellents.

“Once installed it will continue to deter birds for at least two years whatever the weather conditions,” they add.

A pack will set buyers back up to £50 on some websites, but the product's unparalleled selling points see many undeterred by the price.

If a long-term solution is the priority but so is budgeting, gardeners can enquire about the various plants that are known to deter pigeons.
