Paris was put on lockdown after a man reportedly threatened to blow himself and holed himself up inside the Iranian embassy - but he failed after "forgetting to bring his bomb".

According to the latest reports the man has now been arrested but streets surrounding the 16th arrondissment have been cordoned off as a number of armed officers stormed the scene.

Now one commemtator is saying that the reason his bid failed because he "forgot his bomb".

The man was believed to be wearing a belt strapped with explosives but gave himself up soon after 2pm, walking out of the consulate with his hands in the air and giving himself over to police at the scene.

A security source said: "He had no explosives or weapons on him. "He was placed under arrest immediately and taken away to a secure police station for questioning," reports MailOnline.

According to a police source, the arrest took place when "the individual came out" and "The BRI [and special police unit] is currently carrying out a round of control of the surroundings, a survey is still in progress".

It is not yet known whether the incident is connected to the war in the Middle East

Police have also repertedly ordered the city's Metro Line 6 to be interrupted as a safety measure. Reports say Sentinel soldiers, the BRI (an elite police unit) and numerous firefighters are still on site.

A source at the Paris police headquarters initially said: “This day around 11am, a man was seen by a single witness entering the Iranian consulate at rue de Fresnel in Paris 16 carrying a grenade or an explosive vest."

The source added that “the police prefect has mobilized the BRI” which is an elite police unit, specifying that the consulate had made a “request for intervention” to the police headquarters.

Now Mahyar Tousi, Tousi TV founder, has taken to social media to give a withering analysis of the debacle.

He posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "BREAKING: Suicide bomber at the Iranian embassy in Paris failed because he forgot his bomb

"You can't make this stuff up"

It comes after Israel launched a revenge attack on Iran by firing drones in the early hours of this morning.

This was in response to Iran launching over 300 missiles towards Israel on Saturday.

However, 99 percent of the missiles were intercepted by Israel and its allies.

It was not yet clear whether the incident in Paris is related to the on-going crisis in the Middle East.
