Danish royals break silence on Queen's brutal decision to strip royal titles from children
Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark have finally spoken about the former monarch's decision to remove the royal titles from their children.
Prince Joachim of Denmark has spoken about his mother, Queen Margrethe's, decision to strip his four children of their royal titles.
Joachim and his wife, Princess Marie, said they were "not happy" about the way it happened but added they have since "moved on", in a new interview with The Washington Post.
The prince is the younger son of Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik.
In a shock decision back in 2022, Queen Margrethe of Denmark decided four of her eight grandchildren would no longer hold royal titles.
This meant that from January 2023, Count Nikolai, Count Felix, Count Henrik and Countess Athena would not be styled as Prince or Princess and His/Her Highness but would remain in line to the throne.

Joachim told the outlet: "We’ve moved on."
His wife added: "We weren’t happy about the way it happened. But it’s a family thing. It’s complicated.
"It’s also their name. It’s their identity since they were born. So it’s more than just what people see as a title."
The Danish royals relocated from their home in France to Washington in the summer of 2023 due to Prince Joachim's new job at the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defense.
