As speculation mounts about Gavin and Stacey making a comeback to our television screens, creators and stars of the show, Ruth Jones and James Corden have reunited at Variety Club Showbusiness Awards.

James, 45, and his former co-star Ruth, 57, appeared happier than ever as they posed for pictures together at the glitzy bash on Sunday evening.

James was presented with Variety Club Silver Heart Award 2024 for Outstanding Global Achievements in Broadcasting, Acting and Comedy.

The actor was shown an accolade reel of all of his biggest moments before he headed on stage to collect his prestigious award. However, despite being on hand to congratulate the man of the evening, Ruth was noticably missing from the accolade reel and she couldn't resist making a cheeky swipe at it.

Following the moment, the BBC star, appearing in character as Nessa Jenkins, joked: "Oh I'm not being funny, I wasn't included in that. I made James Corden the man he is," leaving audience laughing.

The pair's reunion comes after it was reported in February that the comedy is set to return for a Christmas special, five years after it was last on-screen.

It was said that a new episode would be filmed over the Summer, with the one-off airing over the festive period this year, according to a report by US publication Deadline.

They went on to state that the special is in development/pre-production and cameras are set to roll in a few months time.

However, Ruth shut down the never-ending rumours while in a conversation with Oliver Callan on RTE Radio 1.

She expressed: "If there was something to say on that front, James [Corden] and I would happily announce it."

The show starred Matthew Horne and Joanna Page as the lead pair of Gavin and Stacey, running for three series from 2007.

The BBC sitcom was last on-air in 2019 for it's annual Christmas special, which enthralled audiences and loyal fans of the show.

As well as being the creators of the show, James starred as Gavin's best friend Smithy while Ruth acted as Stacey's best pal Nessa.

The series featured an ensemble cast, with Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon and Melanie Walters also featuring as supporting cast members.
