The Divorce Hotel offers all the perks of a romantic getaway - without the romance

Dutch firm Divorce Hotel offers all the perks of a short break from luxurious surroundings, plush bedrooms, spa treatments and dinner dates.

But while on a relaxing break, married couples are also able to untie the knot.

The unique idea is the brainchild of Jim Halfens.

Jim's company settle divorces during the three-day trips using a team of professionals.

Couples wishing to split pay between $3,500 (£2275) and $10,000 (£6,500) for the occasion.

It's aimed at educating soon-to-be ex-couples about asset splitting and visitation rights rather than drawing the matter out.

After originating in Europe, the company now offers the service in one U.S. hotel - the Gideon Putnam resort in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Jim, CEO of Divorce Hotel International, said: "We take care people split up in a positive way for a flat fee.

"Our clients need to be able to wish each other a positive new future."

He adds that the trip should encourage couples to look to the future.

"A marriage failing is negative but divorce should be a positive new start.

"The procedure is intense, a rollercoaster and pressure cooker - it isn't easy but at the end it saves a lot of negativity.

"When the weekend is over both will sign the divorce agreement and everybody can go on with their lives."
