Gloomy weather is making Londoners want to leave the country for good

As 80 percent of Britons say that grey and wet weather makes them feel more glum overall, according to new research.

Venessa Alexander, UK director of Visit St. Pete Clearwater in Florida, said: "Clearly the weather we Brits are so famous for can have a negative long-term impact.

"Getting away for a sunny break can offer physical and psychological benefits."

But although the North is particularly cold it's mostly Londoners who believe the grass is greener elsewhere.

Many parts of the country are only just recovering from a fierce cold snap that began in October last year.

Temperatures in the Highlands fell to as low as -13C on January 19 on what weather experts say was the coldest day of winter.
