Celebrity traveller- Marco Pierre White
MARCO Pierre White, 50, once the youngest chef to hold three Michelin stars, lives in London. He has three children.
MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?
Those I remember most fondly were spent with my late mother. She died when I was six but I remember vividly trips we made to northern Italy. She came from Bardolino on the edge of Lake Garda. It was such a long journey: train to London, train to Dover, ferry and then another very long train journey. For six years I’ve been lucky enough to work for P&O Cruises and have seen some fantastic places. Vigo in Spain stands out for its fabulous paella.
AND YOUR WORST?
I’ve never had a bad holiday. I’ve heard some of my friends’ horror stories but I’ve been extraordinarily fortunate.
WHICH TRAVEL GADGET IS ESSENTIAL?
My mobile charger, I am always on the phone.
I have to be active, I can’t just lie on a beach
BEST BOOK?
I love books but am not really a fan of fiction. I read to learn not to escape. I enjoy reading about local architecture and the culinary specialities of the particular place where I am visiting.
HOW DO YOU SPEND THE TIME?
I have to be active, I can’t just lie on a beach. I wander around finding markets and squares to explore. I also like to find out how the locals live and what they prefer to eat. I am also a keen photographer.
WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?
I never tire of Venice, it is one of the most wonderful place on earth. I’d also like to go back to Dubrovnik where I found the restaurants and architecture fascinating.
WHERE NEXT?
Argentina when I can. I’ve never been to South America.
