The country with the world's cleanest air is a beach paradise without many tourists

Only 10 of the world's countries meet the WHO's recommendations for clean air. The country with the least air pollution is a gorgeous island spot.

Air is one of the biggest threats to human life and sadly many of the world's countries don't meet the WHO's recommendations for safe air quality levels. 

In fact, only 10 countries met the expected level in the recent World Air Quality Report by IQAir. While the UK didn't make the top 10, several European countries found a spot on the list. 

Bangladesh has the world's worst air quality closely followed by Pakistan, , Tajikistan and Burkina Faso. 

But which countries have the world's cleanest air? 

In this list, Express.co.uk looks at the top 10 countries with the best air quality in the world.

10.Finland

Finland had the world's 10th best air quality, landing just inside the recommended WHO guidelines.  and has taken the title for the . It could be time to add Finland to your bucket list.

9.Estonia

Estonia has some of the best air quality scores in Europe. Residents in the capital city, Tallinn, can travel for free on its public transport network which helps to lower car pollution. While Estonia's capital attracts most of its tourists, the country has some gorgeous countryside to see as well.

8.Puerto Rico

A Caribbean island, Puerto Rico has some of the world's cleanest air and sits inside the WHO recommended guidelines. The island is famed for its natural beauty which encompasses beaches, forest and waterfalls.

7.Australia

Australia just missed out on a spot in the top five but it still has some of the world's cleanest air. A top destination for British expats, many are attracted by the country's weather and beaches. However, Australia isn't immune to the impacts of climate change and has seen huge forest fires in recent years.

6.New Zealand

Just beating neighbouring Australia in the clean air rankings, New Zealand has very low levels of air pollution. It's a popular destination for backpacking and one of the world's leading hotspots for adventure sports. Tourists can even go skiing there.
