Budget European city break nicknamed 'Little Paris'- where a pint is just £2.30

Data shows the average price of a pint is just £2.40 and a bottle of wine will set you back just over £5.

Southern is home to the nation's capital city of Bucharest which, although not the cheapest city in the world, is among one of the most affordable capital city breaks in Europe. Experts from Tripadvisor point out that the city is often nicknamed "Little Paris" due to its "elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences".

The city is also home to the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon, the communist-era Palatul Parlamentului or Palace of Parliament.

According to the cost of living aggregator Numbeo, a three-course meal for two, at a mid-range restaurant, will set you back approximately £43.

For a bottle of wine, you can expect to pay just over £5 and for a local , you'll pay just £2.34. By comparison, the average price of a pint of beer in the UK is £4.21.

If nightlife is important to you, the historic Lipscani district nestled in the Old Town is home to an energetic nightlife scene. The lively pedestrianised street is lined with bars, cafes, and clubs. You can expect to find a blend of modern establishments and traditional Romanian beer houses known as "berării."

The area is popular for the variety of venues it offers.  Calea Floreasca is one of the city's most famous streets and is the place to go if you're looking for a fine dining restaurant or a stylish lound. It's also one of the areas enjoyed by locals.

The street is also located within reach of Lake Herastrau. The lake is surrounded by Herastrau Park which is a popular destination throughout the year for walks, spread over 187 hectares.

The city is home to a range of different hotels and accommodation types, including plenty of luxury properties.

However, if a purse-friendly option is top of your list, Booking.com lists some of the "best, cheap" hotels starting as low as £27 a night.

You can fly to Bucharest with Ryanair for less than £30 depending on the time of year you plan on travelling.
