Daniel Smethurst's Wimbledon debut ends in defeat
DANIEL SMETHURST bowed out of the first round of Wimbledon after defeat against John Isner.
The Mancunian was making his main draw debut at SW19 but it ended in disappointing fashion as he lost in straight sets to the ninth seeded American - 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
Smethurst rallied hard early on but lost the first set when he challenged a call that went against him.
Isner, who has competed in some memorable Wimbledon contests before, found his rhythm and started to pick off Smeshurst.
Isner then broke serve in the seventh game of the second set to close in on victory.
Smethurst's energy was spent and Isner went on to reach the second round.
