Anthony Wilding: Four-midable Kiwi
NEW Zealander Anthony Wilding was the toast of Wimbledon 100 years ago when he defeated Britain’s Herbert Roper Barrett in the men’s singles. Wilding won four consecutive Wimbledon titles (1910-14).
He remains the only Kiwi to triumph at SW19.
Dorothea Lambert Chambers won the battle of the Brits to defeat Dora Boothby in the women’s singles a century ago.
