Marketa Vondrousova became the first unseeded Wimbledon ladies singles champion in the Open Era, making history with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Ons Jabeur. Playing in her second Grand Slam final - four years after the first - the 24-year-old needed just 80 minutes to stun the sixth seed.

It was heartbreak for Jabeur once again - 12 months after she lost last year's final to Elena Rybakina. The Tunisian took an early break lead but her nerves got the better of her as she made 31 unforced errors throughout the match compared to just 13 from the world No 42.

Vondrousova had undergone wrist surgery just over a year ago and was forced to miss last year's Championships as she was in a cast. But just a year later the 24-year-old managed to earn the biggest win of her career to be crowned a Grand Slam champion.

"I don’t know what’s happening now it’s an amazing feeling and I mean Ons congratulations and you are such an inspiration for all of us and I hope you’re going to win one day. You’re an amazing person and congratulations, you guys are doing an amazing job," Vondrousova said after her win. "After everything I’ve been through I had a cast last year this time so this is amazing that I can stand here and hold this. Tennis is crazy."

Vondrousova speaks after becoming the Wimbledon champion

"I don’t know what’s happening now it’s an amazing feeling and I mean Ons congratulations and you are such an inspiration for all of us and I hope you’re going to win one day. You’re an amazing person and congratulations, you guys are doing an amazing job," she started.

"After everything I’ve been through I had a cast last year this time so this is amazing that I can stand here and hold this. Tennis is crazy."

Having missed last year's Championships following wrist surgery, she said: "I don’t really know you know, the comebacks aren’t easy, you never know what to expect and after the second one I was playing smaller tournaments and I was hoping that I can come back at this level and now it’s happening. I want to thank my coach, all of you guys are amazing. My little sister is crying up there."

Jabeur speaks after another tough loss

"This is very, very tough. I'm gonna look ugly in the photos, it's not going to help," Jabeur said as she addressed the Centre Court crowd in tears.

"I think this is the most painful loss of my career, so."

Congratulating her opponent, she continued: "First I wanna say congratulations to Marketa and her team for this amazing win. You are an amazing player and I know you had a lot of injuries so I’m very happy for you."

Jabeur also vowed to come back and win the title one day after two losses in finals here. "I don’t know, it’s just going to be a tough day for me today but I’m not going to give up and I’m going to come back stronger. It’s an amazing tournament for me I wish I continued until the end I want to thank my team for always believing in me and we’re going to make it one day, I promise you," she said.

What has Marketa Vondrousova said about the final?

Vondrousova is back into another Major final four years after her last at the French Open and is bidding to win her first Grand Slam title.

The 24-year-old underwent wrist surgery just a year ago and was in a cast when she missed last year's Championships.

Ahead of the final, she said: "

I mean, after everything I've been through, two surgeries, it's not always easy to come back. Yeah, you don't know if you can play at this level and if you can be back at the top and back at these tournaments.

"I just feel like I'm just grateful to be on a court again, to play without pain. I'm just really grateful for it."

Jabeur kicked off Centre Court hours before final

Ahead of Saturday's final, Jabeur practiced on Centre Court but was asked to change out of her black training kit after breaking the all-white rule.

The sixth seed could only resume her practice session after getting changed. Speaking on the BBC, Chris Evert said: "And by the way, Ons was wearing all black on Centre Court and they kicked her off. They kicked her off and made her put on white clothes. At Wimbledon you have to wear white! Even in the final of Wimbledon. I thought that was interesting."

Full story HERE.

What has Ons Jabeur said about the final?

Jabeur is contesting her third Grand Slam final and her second at Wimbledon, suffering heartache at this stage 12 months ago.

This time around, she's had a very different route to the final - beating four Major champions. And she's hoping it will be third time lucky.

"Yeah, last year was my first final of a Grand Slam. Definitely getting closer to winning the Grand Slam that I always wished," she said.

"I would say I always believed. But sometimes you would question and doubt it if it's going to happen, if it's ever going to happen. Being in the last stages, I think it does help you believe more.

"For me, I'm going to learn a lot from not only Wimbledon's final but also US Open final, and give it my best. Maybe this year was all about trying two times and getting it right the third time. So let's see."
