’s performances since her win last year have been slated by Express Sport readers who rate her form in the past year to be an average of just two out of 10. The 19-year-old has struggled to make the most of her American success last season failing to make it past the second round of any Grand Slam this year. 

Raducanu originally won the hearts of the nation in 2021 during her run to the fourth round of , becoming the youngest Brit woman to reach the last 16 in the Open era. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire from the match against Ajla Tomljanović after suffering breathing difficulties. 

Her success was only a taste of what was to come as she went on to win the US Open without dropping a set, becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to taste victory in a major tournament. Expectations were therefore high that she could go on to become one of the best players in the sport, something which has yet to come to fruition given her struggles this year. 

Now, Express Sport readers have rated Raducanu’s form over the course of the last 12 months, giving her a less than positive average of 2.36 out of 10. 40% of respondents rated her year at one of ten, highlighting how far she has fallen in some people’s estimation in that time.

Raducanu spoke of her disappointment of being knocked out of the tournament but admitted it could end up proving to be a positive for her career giving her a chance to reset. The Brit was beaten in straight sets by Alize Cornet in the first round. 

“Obviously really disappointing, really sad to leave here,” she said in her post-match press conference. “It’s probably my favourite tournament. But also, in a way happy because it’s a clean slate. I’m going to drop down the rankings. Climb my way back up. In a way, the target will be off my back slightly. I just have another chance to claw my way back up there.

“It is a clean slate. I can just start again. I don’t know what my ranking will be. Probably pretty low down. With perspective, actually, as a 19-year-old, I’ve had not a bad year. To be top hundred, if you told me that a year ago, I’d take it.”
