Murphy moves in
A NEW era begins for Leicester tonight with Geordan Murphy rushing back from a hernia operation to take over as club captain from Martin Corry and lead the champions’ first defence of their Premiership title at Sale.
Murphy filled in on a temporary basis at the end of last season, with old warhorse Corry left out of the side.
But with Corry put out to pasture for good, Irish full-back Murphy brings a permanent change to the Tigers’ growl.
Leicester head coach Richard Cockerill said: “Geordy has been here for 13 years. He talks a lot of sense and he has a world-class rugby brain.”
THE chairmen of England’s Guinness Premiership clubs have agreed a new code on blood injuries with immediate effect, giving opposition team doctors the option to verify such injuries.
