Rowing: Oxford make a splash
OXFORD buried the bitter memories of last year by beating Cambridge by a length and a half to win the 159th Boat Race.
A year ago I was carrying my friend on a stretcher and it was the worst moment of my life. This is a very different feeling.
In 2012, Oxford’s crew had been in a strong position to win when the race was interrupted by a protestor.
On its resumption, they suffered a broken blade and lost, with Oxford bowman Alex Woods then taken to hospital after collapsing at the end.
Yesterday’s victory was therefore special for Karl Hudspith, one of only two returning dark blues.
He said: “A year ago I was carrying my friend on a stretcher and it was the worst moment of my life. This is a very different feeling.”
