Toon's extra time for Owen claim
NEWCASTLE have been given a one-month extension to finalise a deal with FIFA over their £6.25million compensation claim for Michael Owen’s horrific World Cup injury.
FIFA had threatened to pull the plug tomorrow if Newcastle refused their offer of £925,000, but a Magpies source told the Daily Express: “We’ve got an extension now until the end of April. There were so many meetings scheduled, meaning various parties were unavailable. We don’t mind waiting – as long as we get a fair deal.”
But there may be tough work for the club ahead. FIFA president Sepp Blatter is amazed at the size of Newcastle’s claim and said recently: “They have just signed an astronomical [Premier League] TV contract and are demanding colossal sums for Owen. This is greed.”
