Rio 2016’s most awkward moment? Chinese Olympic boxer MISTAKENLY thinks he's won
OLYMPIC fans were left cringing after a boxer mistakenly thought he had won a qualifying heat.
The moment an athlete THINKS he's won
China’s Lu Bin fought a closely-contested preliminary against Kenya’s Peter Mungai Warui.
After a nail-biting third round, the final outcome was left to the judges who awarded the winning point to Warui.
Ahead of the result, Bin stood pumping his fist, expecting victory.
As the verdict was announced, he raised his fist triumphantly.
The Chinese boxer jumped the gun ahead of the judge's decision
After a few seconds he realised his mistake, leaving the real victor to celebrate with his coaches.
Warui will now progress to the men’s light fly quarter-finals, where he will face Cuba’s Johanys Argilagos.
He is the second Kenyan to advance in the boxing events, after Rayton Nuku Okwiri defeated London 2012 bronze medallist Andrei Zamkovoi of Russia.
Both men are hoping to become the first Kenyan boxer to win gold at the Olympics in 38 years.
Bin was not the only boxer left disappointed in the preliminaries.
Three Team GB fighters were knocked out of the Games yesterday, leaving just eight men and one women remaining.
