It's somewhat of a surprise that Kevin Durant is still at Brooklyn Nets this season, after a summer filled with trade rumours and controversy. And one of the biggest stories of the summer came in the form of Jaylen Brown being offered to the Nets by the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics reportedly wanted Durant during the off-season and were willing to part with Brown, according to The Athletic, though their offer was rejected.

But Brown was seemingly none the wiser, as just hours after the story broke, he replied on Twitter: "Smh (shake my head)." Both Brown and Durant have stayed put, and are fully focused on the season ahead with their respected organisations.

However, after months of not addressing the issue in too much detail, Brown has now come out and spoke about the summer just gone. And even team-mate Marcus Smart offered his views, claiming how happy he is to have Brown remain in Boston.

In an interview with NBC Sports Boston, Brown opened up about the summer saga, and spoke about how he coped with the rumours. "You just keep doing what you do," Brown said. "That’s all I’ve been doing. Like, it’s been the same since I’ve been here in Boston, so it’s the same now. So I just keep doing what I’ve been doing, put my best foot forward, I guess.

"This summer, I was hanging out with my grandpa, working out. I feel good, I’m in the best shape of my life. So that’s it." Brown admitted to feeling frustrated with the rumours, but was keen to switch topics quickly, probably due to already dealing with the endless links over the summer. But team-mate Smart knows what trade talk feels like, and also spoke to NBC about what he did to help during practices this summer.

"When I was out there, we didn’t talk about the [rumours]," said Smart. "I just decided, me being me, to reach out to him because I personally understand what it’s like to have your names in trade talks.

"I’ve been in it for nine years straight. So, for me, I can understand where his head might be, if it’s there. But if it’s not there, I don’t want it to get there.

"So let me give him a little help and ease his mind knowing that you don’t take anything seriously.

"And trust me, your name in trade talks is not necessarily a bad thing. He understood it. But, for the most part, he was happy. After that conversation, we didn’t talk about it. Never again. I’m ecstatic to have Jaylen Brown [in Boston]."
