Martin Laird blows lead
MARTIN LAIRD yesterday dropped four shots on the final three holes after a round that had seen him take control of the Players Championship at Sawgrass in Florida.
The US-based Glaswegian, whose score of 65 shared the first-round lead overnight with Ian Poulter, moved from being seven under to 10 under. But after dropping a shot on the 16th, he suffered on the signature hole, the Island Green 17th, when he double-bogeyed.
Then, to make matters worse, Laird dropped another shot on the last hole to end at six under for a tournament where the first prize is more than £1million.
