Matteo Manassero fails to make cut
ITALIAN teenage sensation Matteo Manassero last night missed out on the opportunity to play in The Masters next month for the first time as a professional.
Manassero, 18, needed to win the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco to break into the top 50 and get an 11th-hour invitation to play at Augusta.
Going into the final round in Agadir, a level-par 72 saw him slip back into a share of sixth.
He said. “I played good rounds of golf, but in the end it just was not enough. But I gave it a good shot.”
Michael Hoey, of Belfast, climbed to 76th in the world after shooting two straight 65s to win by three shots from fellow Irishman Damien McGrane.
