Address this 'bad rule'
TIME for the R&A to jettison the nonsensical rule which cost Webb Simpson his first PGA Tour victory in New Orleans at the weekend.
Webb Simpson lost out to Bubba Watson in a play-off after incurring a one-stroke penalty on the 15th when the ball moved as he was addressing it. Why, when he was seeking no advantage, should he be punished for something beyond his control?
Simpson, who called the penalty on himself, was aggrieved and said: “I better limit my comments on that rule because I think it’s such a bad one.
“When the wind or other natural things affect the golf ball, the player shouldn’t be penalised.”
