Karlsson’s plea for Seve event
ROBERT Karlsson has been sending texts to his Ryder Cup team-mates asking them to join him at the Royal Trophy in a warm-up for next year’s match with the Americans.
The Amata Spring Country Club in Thailand hosts the annual confrontation between Europe and Asia on January 8. The home side were triumphant last year against a weak European team in an event promoted by Amen Corner, a company owned by Seve Ballesteros.Henrik Stenson has already been selected by European captain Ballesteros, but it is Karlsson who is the main driving force behind trying to persuade the leading players on the continent to meet up ahead of the Celtic Manor event in September.
Leading Tour professionals such as Lee Westwood have received messages, saying, “Remember, it’s for Seve” from Karlsson. Ballesteros hopes to make a playing comeback at the event following an operation to remove a brain tumour.
