Liverpool legend Graeme Souness on Virgil van Dijk
“I thought even the big two in Spain might have come sniffing for him.
"Definitely Man City, I think they could do with him or someone like him. There’s not too many Virgil van Dijk’s out there.
“I was like most people when he came from Scotland where it was all too easy for him, I thought he would find life difficult, he didn’t, it’s the same Virgil van Dijk.
“He’s someone that plays that would appear to always have another gear available to him.

Souness is surprised Liverpool were able to complete the signing of Virgil van Dijk
“He’s never extended in anything he does and that’s a great sign of a football player when he makes it look so easy.
“I think he’s not going to solve all of Liverpool’s ills defensively but he will go a large way to solving many of those problems.
“I regard him as potentially being a superstar.
"I’ll tell you how far I will go, I think in a couple of years they will be possibly in the Philippe Coutinho situation again. Given his age he can only get better barring a bad injury.”
