Darmian, 26, only joined United from Torino last summer but his future at Old Trafford appears in doubt.
Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claim Mourinho met United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward last week to discuss player sales.
Darmian is supposedly available and reports in Italy claim he could be heading back to Turin.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is plotting a number of big-money moves this summer, with Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Andre Gomes of Valencia on the boss' shopping list.
As for United, Mourinho is tipped to secure his first deal of the summer with Villarreal defender Eric Bailly expected in Manchester to complete a medical this week.
The Ivory Coast international, 22, will cost United £30million.
