Alan Stubbs joined Hibernian from former club Everton in 2014
The 44-year-old, who had a year to run on his contract, turned his back on the Easter Road club less than a fortnight after leading them to William Hill Scottish Cup glory against Rangers - the club's first trophy in 114 years.
He has signed a three-year contract with Rotherham, replacing Neil Warnock, after lengthy negotiations over compensation were finally concluded on Wednesday tea-time.
"People say the Championship is a really tough league but I see it as a fantastic league and a really exciting league. That doesn't daunt me or faze me and I'm really looking forward to the challenge ahead."
Stubbs began his coaching career with former club Everton before joining Hibernian in 2014.
