Tottenham surge ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool with £18m bid for Newcastle ace
TOTTENHAM have reportedly launched an £18million bid for Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko.
Moussa Sissoko - Spotlight on
Sissoko was one of the Magpies most impressive performers last season and has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all said to be interested, while Manchester United were also linked with the player before landing Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Liverpool were thought to be leading the race for the 25-year-old despite claims that Brendan Rodgers summer overhaul may be complete following the signing of Christian Benteke.
But according to French website Foot Mercato, Tottenham have leapt to the front of the queue with a substantial bid.
Newcastle have already bought a ready-made replacement for Sissoko in Georginio Wijnaldum, although Steve McClaren would like to keep both players.
Sissoko has admitted that he would one day like to play for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho but also needs playing time ahead of Euro 2016.
He said: "Didier Deschamps clearly told us that he will only be choosing players who are regularly playing [at their clubs].
Moussa Sissoko is a target for Tottenham
"With one year to go until the Euros, you cannot change club and find yourself on the bench.
"At the same time, I want to play for one of the biggest clubs and I would notably like to play in the Champions League, something I cannot do at Newcastle.
"One day or another, my hour will come. In any case, I see myself staying in England."
