Benitez says goodbye to Napoli and hints at future
The Russia international has returned to the club from a loan spell with Villarreal, where he scored seven goals in 40 appearances.
Express Sport reported last month that Brendan Rodgers was keen on striking a £22million deal for Cheryshev in a bid to strengthen his options in midfield.
However, Spanish paper Marca claims that incoming Real boss Rafa Benitez plans to keep the 24-year-old as he looks to implement his own brand of football at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is added that Brazilian anchorman Casemiro, who has spent the last season with Porto, is also set to feature in Real's first-team plans next season.
