Rob Green still believes QPR can escape the drop

QUEENS PARK RANGERS goalkeeper Rob Green knows better than most exactly what is required in the heat of a relegation battle.

Green, 35, has experienced the agony of the drop three times already during his career but he was also part of a West Ham side that won against champions Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2007 to avoid relegation on the final day of the season.

This stalemate leaves QPR in a perilous position with just four games remaining.

Chris Ramsey's side are second from bottom, four points from safety with Sunderland, Leicester and Hull all having played one game less.

With upcoming fixtures at Liverpool and Manchester City, many have written off QPR's chances of survival but Green knows from experience that anything is still possible.

Green said: "It can still happen. With West Ham, nearly 10 years ago, we were in a worse situation and stayed up. We have gone to the champions at Old Trafford and stayed up.

"We are up against it we are under no illusions. We are a win behind now and we will have to go somewhere where people think we are not going to win to give us a chance.

"It is going to be tough, we have still got 12 points to play for and we are still in and fighting."

Green suffered the pain of relegation with Norwich, West Ham and also with QPR in 2013 but he insists this QPR team is better prepared for the nerve-jangling battles ahead.

Green, who was dropped to the bench in 2013 following the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César, said: "The worst relegation was here because I had to sit and watch the majority of it. It gets worse with each relegation and it's not something I want to taste again.

"Our previous performances against (Manchester) City and Liverpool are enough to show what we can do. So it's not like a forlorn hope.

"You compare it to two years ago, now we are going out with 11 people on the pitch who are giving everything.

"We can recognise that and hopefully everyone at the club and in the stands can recognise that as well.

"You would rather walk out with the lads we have got now because it is not for the want of trying.

"We know we can walk out and face anyone or anything, you know everyone is pushing in the right direction."

QPR were denied victory against 10th placed West Ham thanks largely to a missed penalty from 17-goal striker Charlie Austin and a disallowed goal.

Austin's spot-kick was awarded in the first half after a handball from James Collins but it was saved by Hammers goalkeeper Adrian.

The goalkeeper later admitted to some 'psyching out' before the penalty. He said: "I try to make him (Charlie Austin) nervous, I say to him, 'I know where you shoot.'"

The hosts thought they had scored on 74 minutes when Richard Dunne headed in, but the goal was chalked-off by referee Mike Jones for a foul by Steven Caulker on Adrian.

The one genuine moment of quality in the match was Green's sublime one-handed save from Aaron Cresswell's curling free-kick.

Green said: "I was pleased to keep it out because it was one of those days where we could not score. It maybe puts one back from my mistake two weeks ago. But it's difficult in a result where you haven't quite got that victory."

The draw, coupled with victories for relegation rivals Leicester and Hull means time is quickly running out for Ramsey's men.

The QPR manager said: "We still believe. The tide can turn and we will look to turn it next week."
