Arsene Wenger: This is how Chelsea have nearly won the Premier League title

DEFENSIVE consistency will earn Chelsea their fourth Premier League title - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes.

The Blues have kept 14 clean sheets in the league this season, conceding just 26 all campaign.

Only Southampton (24) have let in more goals than Chelsea, while Jose Mourinho’s men have scored more than any other side bar Manchester City.

They lead the Premier League by 10 points heading into Sunday’s 4pm kick off at second-place Arsenal and also boast a +39 goal difference — the best in the division.

And Wenger pointed to that consistency as the reason why Chelsea are on course to clinch the title.

“They have been very consistent until now,” Wenger said. “They are the team that have lost fewer games than any other teams.

The Premier League rewards the consistency and on that front, if you look at their record, they have been defensively very strong and very consistent.”

Arsenal themselves are on an eight-game winning streak in the league, while the Blues have claimed four wins on the bounce.

On his own team, Wenger expressed his delight at witnessing their recent upturn.

“Since January, I think we are top of the league so we have an opportunity to show that improvement is consistent,” he said.

“We want to continue our run, to continue to win, that’s the first target.”
