Arsenal have won eight league games on the bounce

The Gunners lost four league games and drew six before Christmas but since the turn of the year have enjoyed an upturn in results.

They head into Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea on a run of eight straight league wins that have put them within 10 points of the Blues.

And while Wenger expressed his delight at his team’s current performances, he maintained consistency failed them early in the campaign.

“We dropped points at the start of the season but since January I think we (would be) top of the league,” he said.

“We have the opportunity to show that the improvement is consistent.

“We want to continue to win, strengthen our position at the top of the league - the second position - and we have an opportunity as well to get closer to Chelsea and we want to take it.”

Arsenal progressed to the FA Cup final last weekend with a last-four victory over Aston Villa at Wembley.

And Wenger believes his side can continue to claim positive results before they Wembley showdown with Aston Villa.

“Of course we have a good run of form, good belief an good solidarity," he said.

“We have passed many tests recently. We have another one on Sunday that we want to pass.”
