A TURKISH amateur club has named its football stadium after national star Ilkay Gundogan.

Dursunbey Belediyespor, from north-west Turkey, have named their new ground in honour of the 24-year-old, whose parents live in the area.

Gundogan himself was born in Gelsenkirchen but remains in close contact with his family and was involved in the three-year planning of the new stadium.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik quoted his father as saying: "We will do everything we can to develop the club and the stadium. Ilkay has always maintained close relations with Dursunbey, Balikesir (province) and Turkey."

Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan will have a Turkish stadium named after him

Gundogan plays for Borussia Dortmund but there are reports he could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in the midfielder, who has made 27 appearances for Dortmund this season.

The Sun claim the Bundesliga club want £20million for the player and that United manager Louis van Gaal would use him as a defensive-midfield understudy to Michael Carrick.

He was signed from Nuremberg in 2011 for just £4m.
