The defender, 19, has progressed through a youth system at River Plate that has produced some major stars of European club football over the years.

Pablo Aimar, Hernan Crespo, Martin Demichelis, Javier Mascherano, Gonzalo Higuain and Erik Lamela all graduated from the academy and Mammana looks set to follow in their footsteps and head abroad.

The centre-half earned his first cap for Argentina in June last year in a friendly victory over Slovenia.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Mammana, who can also play right-back, is considered by Arsenal as a promising young talent.

They claim Atletico Madrid are considering an offer for the player, who may struggle to earn a work permit in the UK as he is from a non-EU country.

However, Arsenal and Tottenham could just as likely sign Mammana and field him out on loan, as the Gunners have done before with Joel Campbell and Wellington Silva.
