Man United News: Gundogan hope, Di Maria to STAY, Benteke boost, striker EXIT

Manchester United have identified Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as a potential summer target, according to the Daily Star.

In the aftermath of Jurgen Klopp's decision to quit as Borussia Dortmund manager, many players' futures are in doubt. 

And according to the Sun, United are eyeing German ace Ilkay Gundogan to cover injury-prone Michael Carrick or potentially play with the England star if Louis van Gaal opts to play with two deep-lying midfielders. 

Angel Di Maria has told United he would like to stay at the club, according to the Mirror. 

The Argentina international is set to extend the lease on his family home with the view of remaining at Old Trafford next term. 

Elsewhere at Old Trafford, youngster James Wilson looks set to be heading out on loan to gain more first-team experience. 

Newcastle look to be keen to land the youngster on a temporary move next season. 

United players took to social media to express their disappointment after their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. 

Ander Herrera tweeted: "We deserved more. I'm proud of the team. We must keep improving."

And teammate Chris Smalling wrote: "Absolutely gutted with the result today, felt we deserved more. Our away fans were class once again!!"
