The 28-year-old Argentinian’s strikes almost took Brighton into the Premier League two seasons in a row. Twice he scored last-minute winners to put the Seagulls into the play-offs before they fell at the penultimate hurdle, beaten by promoted Crystal Palace two years ago and finalists Derby last May.

Now his ninth Premier League goal of the season could go a long way to keeping Leicester in the top flight.

Yet, but for a fluke injury to David Nugent, Ulloa (above) wouldn’t even have been on the pitch.

City manager Nigel Pearson was forced to make a last-minute reshuffle, bringing in Ulloa, who lasted only 68 minutes but came off to a standing ovation after his 10th-minute goal had set up this victory, which was sealed by Andy King’s late strike.

The pair kept their team dreaming that they can escape the drop despite spending most of the season at the bottom of the table.

Pearson said: “We have given ourselves a more realistic chance now but we have got to perform in those games left. The danger is people will get carried away. We are still in a difficult situation and we have got to make sure now our fate remains in our own hands for as long as possible.

Swans’ chief Garry Monk said: “Leicester have given themselves a great chance.”
