Sterling's Anfield future has come under the spotlight in recent times after rejecting a lucrative new contract offer from Brendan Rodgers.

The England winger has also been pictured smoking shisha and inhaling laughing gas, leading some pundits to question his commitment on Merseyside.

And speaking in a Kicca Q&A, Carragher admitted that the recent media coverage has indeed shaken Sterling, noting that both Chelsea and Arsenal are possible destinations if he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season.

He said: "I think it's affected Raheem slightly. He was in his best form earlier in the season, probably Liverpool's best player since Christmas.

"But you have to expect that as a young player, you get your ups and downs. I'm sure he will look back on this time as a great learning curve for him.

"I'm sure both clubs [Chelsea and Arsenal] would consider taking him, and we all know the importance under FFP of having home players in the squad.

"But would it be better for him? No, I think he is better off playing and developing, learning and getting regular football at Liverpool."
