We proved them wrong! Jack Wilshere HITS BACK at Arsenal critics

JACK WILSHERE says Arsenal have proven their critics wrong as they zone in on another top-four Premier League finish.

Arsenal currently lie third in the table and have not finished outside the Champions League places since 1997.

They have endured rocky periods, especially between their move to the Emirates Stadium and a couple of years ago when they were considered something of a selling club.

The Gunners lost key players such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie during a period of relative austerity as they strove to pay off the debt from their new ground.

But now, having won the FA Cup last season, Wilshere believes the good times are set to return to the red half of north London.

“We lost a lot of players from when I started in the first team, a lot of people said Arsenal would never come back but we didn’t listen to them,” he told arsenal.com.

“We kept going, added real quality, world-class players to the squad and the main thing here is the team ethic.”

Arsenal have won 16 of their last 18 matches, losing only to local rivals Tottenham and to Monaco that resulted in their exit from the Champions League.

And Wilshere insists Arsene Wenger’s men are ready to finish the season on a high.

“You can see that we have a great atmosphere around, everyone wants to work for one another and we go into every game knowing we can create chances if we stay strong defensively,” he added.

“I remember when I got my first injury and it was the year when Cesc (Fabregas) left. We struggled that year at the start and it was tough to watch.

“It has been totally different this year - they have been playing great football and it has been a joy to watch.”
