Manchester United star reveals plans for the future

MANCHESTER UNITED star Michael Carrick has revealed that he intends to keep playing for 'a couple of years' thanks to his healthy lifestyle.

The 33-year-old has established himself as an important member of Louis van Gaal's team after returning to action from a long-term injury, and recently signed a one-year extension on his Old Trafford contract.

Carrick is expected to start this weekend against Chelsea as the Red Devils look to make a late bid for the Premier League title, and speaking to MUTV, the England international admitted that he hopes to continue playing at the highest level for a number of years t come.

Carrick explained: "At 33 or 34, that's when you're not sure how your body is going to react.

"Living right and trying to look after myself gives me a better chance. I feel as good and as fit as I ever have.

"I'm not saying I can last as long as Giggsy. Not many people, if anyone, can do what he did. But I tried to learn off Giggsy, Scholesy and Gaz Nev.

"It's stuff in the gym, yoga, living right, eating right… it all comes together and hopefully gives you a chance of playing for that extra couple of years."
