Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois: This is what makes me an effective goalkeeper

THIBAUT COURTOIS has revealed that high levels of concentration help him to maintain his composure in goal for Chelsea.

Thibaut Courtois Player Profile

The Belgium international has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge this season after returning from a three-year loan spell with Atletico Madrid.

Courtois has kept out club favourite Petr Cech with his impressive performances, making numerous key saves as the Blues close in on a first Premier League title in five years.

And speaking to Chelsea's official magazine, the 22-year-old admitted that he has to remain focused at all times due to the attacking prowess of teammates such as Eden Hazard and Diego Costa limiting his own amount of in-game action.

We work on the focus in training and it's good because, in big teams, one save maybe in minute 88 can be decisive

Courtois explained: "I think it's true that, if you play for a top team to win championships, the goalkeeper has to interfere less and there are always players who shine more in the team, like the strikers.

"As a goalkeeper, you might only have to make one or two saves a game - but sometimes really important ones - so, of course, it's nice that people see it and recognise it.

"The concentration as a goalkeeper needs to be very high. We work on the focus in training and it's good because, in big teams, one save maybe in minute 88 can be decisive, so it's very important."
