And Carragher has hailed Coutinho's outstanding peformance in the false nine role against the Magpies.

Jamie Carragher believes Philippe Coutinho has become Liverpool's go-to man

"Last season Luis Suarez was Liverpool’s main man, the go-to man. But as this season has progressed, and for the future, Coutinho is Liverpool’s.

"I don’t think that false nine role will be his. Obviously Sturridge is out. But we’ve seen him behind the front, the main striker tonight, and he was outstanding."
