Manchester City lost 4-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday

City lost 4-2 to rivals Manchester United yesterday, despite Sergio Aguero handing them an early lead at Old Trafford.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men have won just two of six games against United, Chelsea and Arsenal combined this season.

And Carragher insists City cannot cope with the tempo needed to press the big clubs in England.

“City’s team cannot last 90 minutes in a high intensity game against a big team” he said on Sky Sports.

“We saw it at Anfield a few weeks ago. The age of the team can do the running but not at the intensity.

“The players around James Milner could’t keep up the pressing.”

City have now lost four of their last six Premier League outings and Carargher critcised Manuel Pellegrini’s men for failing to hold on to that early lead.

“Watching the start it was a two-fingered salute to the critics of City," he said.

“It was maybe a case of ‘we can’t do it over the full season but we can show people in there derby that we’re not dead and buried’.

“Watching the game it could have been two or three nil.

“But when United got into the game it completely turned. Ashley Young was outstanding on the day - he has been for two months.

“As soon as (Young's equaliser) went in the game completely changed."
